Since 2009 the construction of The Shard is all London has been able to talk about and there was a huge amount of excitement when the public observation deck finally opened its doors to the public in February 2013. Arguably since then the excitement has petered out and it felt as though London was going to move onto more exciting things.
However, the impending opening of the Shangri-La Hotel at The Shard has well and truly put the Shard back under the city (if not the country’s) spotlight! This will be the first Shangri-La Hotel to open in the UK and it couldn’t be in a better location!
It will be located on levels 34 to 52 of the building so you will be guaranteed a breath-taking view of the city if you are lucky enough to stay there. Each and every one of the rooms there will have floor to ceiling windows, but nothing will quite beat the Shangri-La Suite 180-degree views of London, providing an unbeatable view stretching from the Houses of Parliament all the way along to Canary Wharf. Not only that, but they also each room has a ‘Shangri-La Bed’ which has patented body contouring technology – they really do have everything covered. Prices for these luxurious bedrooms start at around £450 per night.
There is also the infamous Gong bar which will be located on level 52 and as such would be the perfect location for a glass champagne to watch the sunset over London or even to hire out for a fabulous drinks reception.
If you are more interested in the hotel as the venue for your next business meeting then you will be pleased to hear that the hotel has a three meeting rooms which vary in capacity from 10 to 140 guests. All three rooms have floor to ceiling windows to so you can enjoy the fantastic views over London. ‘Ren’ is the largest room which caters for up to 140 people and has stunning views over the River Thames and ‘Yi’ the smallest room has views over the world famous Tower Bridge. Due to the unbeatable views that these rooms all offer, they would be ideal for a drinks reception!
Bookings for London’s hottest new venue will open on March 17th with the hotel itself opening on May 6th, so make sure you’re ready! I know we’ll be first in line for that glass of champagne in Gong!
